Brennan’s Eagle Project

The highest achievement in scouting is the Eagle Scout Award.  Brennan has almost reached that summit.   He needs your help with his Leadership Service Project.  Requirement 5:

While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. (The project must benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.) A project proposal must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your unit leader and unit committee, and the council or district before you start. You must use the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook, No. 512-927, in meeting this requirement.

Please mark your calendars for August 17-19 for the Service Project Camp.

See the following note from Brennan for more details:

I am working on advancing to Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout Project I will be holding a weekend campout at the YMCA’s Camp Thompson at which we will build an open cooking hearth, build a ramp off a bridge, and replace and repair cabin screens.

The camp will be held the August 17-19th. We will depart from Grace United Methodist Church at 6 on Friday 8/17 and return by 3:00 on Sunday 8/19. Please eat dinner beforehand. The event will be at the Carlisle Family YMCA’s Camp Thompson at Fuller Lake in Pinegrove Furnace.

We will be tent camping. The food will be provided. If we have time we may go to the lake on Sunday so be prepared with bathing suit and a towel. There are also hiking trails so you may want footwear for working and footwear for hiking. There will be bath houses so bring soap and a towel for a shower Saturday after the long day working.

I am hosting a second event prior to the project to move materials and lay the foundation. This is the day that I will need vehicles and lots of strength to move cement, gravel, and bricks. All help will be appreciated.

The date for this event is the 11th of August. We will leave from the church at 9:00 AM. The help I get will dictate how late it will go. I will provide lunches.

Because of the type of work we will be doing, long pants and long sleeved shirts will be required for the camp out and pants are recommended on the 11th. Your clothes will get dirty and could be ruined. Bring work gloves and goggles if you have them.

I will also need adults to join us and drivers will be needed to transport people for both events.

If you can make it please email me with your name, rank (if you are a Boy Scout), age, and what you would prefer to work on. The jobs are building the brick hearth, building the ramp, rescreening and repairing screens for cabins, and cooking. I will send out update emails with other ways you can help such as lending tools. You must sign up before August, 1st so I can organize my work force and send camp Thompson our numbers.

This is a BSA activity so you will need to fill out a permission slip.

The permission slips attached in my emails only have the 17-19 dates. If you can make it to the 11 just hand write it in.

If you have any questions, suggestions, concerns, or comments, please contact me.

Thank you all for your support and help,

Brennan
